Western Isles Community Care Forum

Western Isles Community Care Forum (WICCF) was established in 1992 as a forum for voluntary care organisations and represents the interests of carers and users of services throughout the Western Isles.

WICCF maintains a Register of Informal Carers and so seeks funding and administers projects which benefit informal carers. We also produce newsletters, a Directory of Care Services and regularly update our facebook page.

Current projects to support unpaid carers include:

  • Carers Support– visiting a carer at home, staff offer training in moving and Handling, personal footcare and First Aid. We provide useful information on support services, grants, benefits, respite breaks, equipment etc.

  • Personal Assistant Directory - On-line service providing a list of people looking for employment in the care sector.

  • Eolas – A social group for carers which meets monthly in a relaxed setting at various locations. Various activities are organised throughout the year.

  • Fois – A weeks accommodation donated to carers, free of charge. Properties available in Lewis, Harris, Uists and Skye .

  • Short Breaks – Grants available to carers for time out from their caring role. The grant can be used for a short holiday, pampering, meals out, driving lessons, pursuit of hobbies, purchase of a pet, etc.

Respitality – Provides a short vital break from routine for unpaid carers when they need it most. We achieve this by connecting with hospitality, tourism and leisure businesses who are willing to donate a break free of charge for unpaid carers to enjoy.
